Our Story

In 2009 the voluntary sector lead a bid under the government’s MyPlace programme to develop new youth initiatives to ensure:

  • more young people, parents and communities feeling that they have attractive and safe places to go in their leisure time where they can get involved in a wide range of activities
  • more young people, particularly the most disadvantaged, participating in positive leisure time activities that support their personal and social development
  • more young people having access to information, advice and guidance services from within places they feel comfortable
  • stronger partnership working between local authorities and their third, private and public sector partners to plan, deliver and operate financially sustainable facilities with, and for, young people.

Timeline

Now three years on TOKKO hosts over 20 different projects supporting a range of young people from those with new interests and keen to support the local community to those with chaotic lifestyles in need of bespoke support to overcome barriers and achieve positive steps and outcomes. Young people particularly value flexibility in activities and being able to have their voice heard as they are the engine room of the organisation.

Put simply we are passionate about making a difference for young people to give them opportunities, experiences and a sense of self-worth to allow them to reach their full potential and be able to take ownership and direct their own future and achieve their goals.
